While California has a high unemployment rate, it’s ranking is now ranks 4th in the nation for unemployment tied with Oregon behind #1 Michigan (15.2%); #2 Nevada (13.2%); #3 Rhode Island (12.3%);#Tied 4 Oregon (12.2%); #6 South Carolina (11.5%); #7 Washington DC and Kentucky (11.1%); Tennessee and North Carolina tied with (10.8%).
Fifteen states have double digit unemployment down from last month’s sixteen, Indiana dropped to 9.9 percent. However, there are 7 states that have hire unemployment rates than the national average.
For California, three sectors added jobs over the month, information, education and health services and government. Go figure government adding jobs?
Meanwhile, this month, 50 counties out of the 58 had double digit unemployment up from last month’s 49. However, this month 7 counties, Inyo, Marin, Mariposa, Napa, Orange San Mateo, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara had lower unemployment rates than the national average of 9.7 percent
Marin County has the lowest unemployment rate, 8.3 percent for August. Imperial County continues to have the highest unemployment rate bu decreasing from 30.2 percent to 28.7 percent.
Overall the news was not very comforting to Californians.
