CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Worst Crime Rates 04-30-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Forbes.com released their annual list of the nation’s most dangerous cities. While Detroit continues to hold the number one position for two years in a row, the states of Florida followed by Louisiana appear to be the leaders
The list is compiled using the violent crime statistics from the FBI's latest uniform crime report, issued in 2008. The violent crime category is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. We evaluated U.S. metropolitan statistical areas--geographic entities defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget for use by federal agencies in collecting, tabulating and publishing federal statistics--with more than 500,000 residents.
1. Detroit 2. Memphis 3. Miami 4. Las Vegas 5. Stockton 6. Orlando 7. Little Rock 8. Charleston 9. Nashville 10. Baltimore 11. New Orleans 12. Baton Rouge 13. West Palm Beach 14. Charlotte 15. Philadelphia
While Stockton does not have a city population of 500,000 that means the statistics take in San Joaquin County including the cities of Lathrop, Manteca and Tracy.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
