CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE CA RANKED 04-13-09
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
According to a newly released report by the Washington D.C. based non-profit group the American Legislative Exchange Council, the Golden State remains in the bottom 10 in the nation ( ranked 43rd, up from 41st in 2008) in the report – Rich States, Poor States: ALEC-Laffer State Economic competitiveness Index.
The report completed in part by former Californian and economist Art Laffer cites California’s high taxes, labor policies and a dysfunctional tort liability system as damaging to business. It also noted that California’s new tax increases are sure to make the state even less competitive in the future.
The top five ranking states are Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Virginia and South Dakota. The bottom five are: New Jersey, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont and New York.
To see the rest of the rankings, the full report can be seen at www.ALEC.org . Go to their Homepage, scroll down until you see the book cover of the report, and then click on to view it. It is however not user friendly.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
