Best States for Business and Careers

Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
California remained #39 in Forbes annual list of the “Best States for Business
and Careers.” Utah topped the list for the second straight year followed by
Virginia, North Carolina, North Dakota and Colorado. The bottom five states
are Maine, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Michigan and Mississippi.
Forbes ranks the states in six categories: overall business cost, labor supply,
regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life.
California ranked fourth in growth prospects, unfortunately it was hurt by the
low rankings in business costs being ranked at 41 and regulatory environment at
40.
South Dakota was ranked first in overall business costs, Colorado was first for
labor supply, North Carolina was first in regulatory environment, Texas ranked
first in both economic climate and growth prospects and Massachusetts received
the top ranking
for quality of life.
