CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE US Chamber Ranking 11-09-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The US Chamber of Commerce has released a publication entitled Enterprising States. It focuses on what makes certain states attractive places to locate, relocate and expand in this uncertain economy; the unintended consequences of cutting certain items from a state budget; and what types of investments the public and private sectors can make now to improve the economy in the future. The report examined six major categories, Performance, Exports, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Workforce, Tax & Regulation and Infrastructure.
Unfortunately for the Golden State, it only ranked in the Top Ten in one of the major categories – Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This may be due to the fact that the report relied on percentages rather than aggregate numbers. For example, last year California lead the nation in combined import/export activity of any state at $470 billion, but it received no credit in this report for it.
