CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Employment 12-20-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The state’s unemployment rate remained the same in November at 12.4 percent according to the Employment Development Department, EDD.
Six categories (construction; information; professional and business services; educational and health services; leisure and hospitality; and government) added jobs over the month, gaining 22,400 jobs. Construction posted the largest increase over the month, adding 7,800 jobs. Five categories (mining and logging; manufacturing; trade, transportation and utilities; financial activities; and other services) reported job declines this month, down 20,800 jobs.
Marin County had the lowest rate in the state at 8.2% up from 8 percent in October. Only 5 counties had an unemployment rate lower than the nation’s at 9.8% down from 8 in October and down from 6 in September. Imperial County remained the highest county with an unemployment rate at 29.1% but down from 29.3% in October and 30.4% in September. Unfortunately, Colusa County joins Imperial with unemployment in excess of 20 percent at 20.8%. However, there are several other counties nearly this level including Sutter at 19.8 %, Trinity 19.7%, Plumas 18.8%, Lake 18.7% Merced and Yuba both at 18.6% and Alpine 18.2%.
I'm Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
