CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Dangerous Day 12-15-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
According to an insurance company, it predicts that more California drivers will crash their cars today December 15, than on any other day of the year.
After four years of studying company data, Allstate gets about 400 accident claims per day, but on December 15, that number jumps to nearly 540. That's more than a 20 percent increase.
As for why Dec. 15 is the most dangerous day, Allstate says it's a combination of things. Use of cell phone Use of radio Weather The sun is lower on the horizon which means drivers could be blinded by the intense sunlight during their commute to and from work. Holiday season is also partly to blame.
Unfortunately December 18th is also one of the top five days most likely for Californians to have an auto accident, so much for happy holidays. Meanwhile, Allstate also identified that February 14, which is Valentines' Day, is the second most dangerous day for California drivers. Allstate officials say that may mean distracted minds could be to blame for accidents too.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
