Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
San Jose and San Francisco-Oakland are ranked in the Top 10 for brainpower according
to a new study by Portfolio.com.
The rankings used U.S. Census Bureau information. The analysis examined the education
levels of the residents from the 200 largest metros, and then based upon five different
levels of educational achievement and their relative earning power; scores were assigned
upon the median income for those workers at a specific educational level to achieve the
index used to rank the metro areas.
The following is the Top Ten:
1. Boulder, CO
2. Ann Arbor, MI
3. Washington, DC
4. Durham, NC
5. Fort Collins, CO
6. Bridgeport-Stamford, CT
7. San Jose, CA
8. Boston, MA
9. Madison, WI
10. San Francisco, Oakland
Unfortunately, their methodology ranks Merced has #200 followed by Visalia #197 and
Bakersfield #196.
