Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute

The Commerce Department reported that U.S. retail sales increased 1.2 percent
over the month to $373.1 billion in October and a 7.3 percent (±0.7%) above
October 2009.

Leading retail growth were increases in motor vehicles and auto parts, building
material and garden supply, food and beverage stores, clothing and clothing
accessories, sporting goods, hobby, book and music stores along with general
merchandise stores

Those lagging or showing no growth included furniture and home furnishing,
electronics and appliance, health and personal care retailers.
