Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

According to an analysis by the University of California Center Sacramento,
it identifies that October exports gained 7 percent from September even as
they remained below last year's figure.

Information presented illustrates that exports were just over $11 billion
shipped from California, an increase of 7 percent from September, but 10.9
percent below the $12.44 billion in goods that California shipped around
the globe in October 2008. Additionally, for the first 10 months of the
year, California’s exports totaled $97.6 billion, a decrease of 21.1 percent
from the $123.7 billion for the same period last year.

It represented California's lowest exports for October since 2005 and the
12th consecutive month exports fell below the level of the previous year.

But as with the previous report, the Center's analysis of the trade data
released by the U.S. Commerce Department shows the overall trend is improving.
Monthly trade figures earlier this year were down as much as 25 percent from
the same month in 2008.
