Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Nationally venture capitalists invested $7.5 billion in 966 deals in the second quarter According to the Money Tree Report form PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association based on data provided by Thomson Reuters.
California comprised 404 deals valued at $3.7 billion for the same time frame. Since The first of the Year California has had 714 deals comprising 40 percent of the deals nationally while the value of deals in the state have been $6.95 billion comprising 50 percent of the invested amount nationally.
The Los Angeles and Orange county regions have continued to see increases since for four straight quarters as values were up from 1stQtr11 from $426 million to $541 Million in the 2ndQtr11 on 54 deals for the quarter.
The Sacramento/ Northern California region also saw investment dollars increase from $26 million to $28 million over the quarter, yet on only 2 deals.
The San Diego region saw an increase from $159 million to 198 million getting closer to the normal investment of $200 million a quarter.
The Silicon Valley was up from the 1stQtr11 from $2.6 billion to $2.9 billion for the 2ndQtr11, the highest in investment values since the 2ndQtr10.
