CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Salary Gap 09-14-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute
The salary gap between California men and women workers is the narrowest in the nation.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics, BLS found that full-time female employees earned nearly 89 percent of what their male counterparts were paid last year.
Officials at the BLS pointed out that a major factor is the types of jobs where women work “such as business and professional services along with financial sectors. These jobs tend to pay more than professions such as education and natural resource-related industries.” Additionally, business and professional services along with financial services are large employment sectors of the California economy.
The states with the widest salary gap between men and women were Louisiana, Wyoming and Alaska.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
