CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Fairfield 08-05-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
It appears that the political leadership and diligent work of its city management in concert with its community, economic development and redevelopment professionals of the City of Fairfield is paying dividends yielding new business investments and hundreds of new jobs. Fairfield (pop.105,000+) located in Solano County is in the northeastern part of the Bay area, located half way between San Francisco and Sacramento on Interstate 80.
The city brands itself as ‘the next premium location for office and industrial development in the Bay Area.’ However, upon a quick orientation, it appears that Fairfield is already the premium location for office and industrial development. Fairfield the county seat is also the host city to Travis Air Force Base, the largest employer in the area. Its presence has provided economic stability for the community for decades. And it is this stability which has allowed for other opportunities to be achieved in the effort to diversify and sustain Fairfield’s economy. Fairfield has become a ‘welcome home’ to food companies, manufacturers and life science-biotech firms. Major companies located in Fairfield include, Budweiser, Jelly Belly Candy Company, Genentech, Novartis, Applied Materials, Owens – Illinois and Ball Metal.
Development is currently on the move with more business investments by companies such as Frank Lin Distillers, Kiewit Pacific and Verizon Wireless along with growth at the Westfield’s Solano Mall and the return of automobile dealers such as Ford and the addition of Mercedes Benz to the city’s auto mall.
Fairfield prides itself with excellent customer service in support of its business community and is evidenced at its website - http://www.ci.fairfield.ca.us/
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
