CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Employment 07-19-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute
The state’s unemployment rate decreased slightly to 12.3 percent down from a 12.4 percent for May according to the Employment Development Department, EDD. However, June 2010 unemployment was up 0.7 percent over June 2009 11.6 percent unemployment, illustrating that employment still lags.
For June Imperial County had the highest unemployment at 27.6 percent, up 0.1 percent over May and Marin County has the lowest at 8.2 percent up from 7.9 percent in May. This month only one county had over 20 percent unemployment rates (down from two in May and five in April), and that was Imperial county at 27.5%.
Multiple counties now have lower or equal unemployment rates to the national rate –Inyo, Marin, Mono, Napa, Orange, San Mateo and Santa Barbara,
However, multiple counties saw their unemployment increase. While such counties including Marin and Imperial, increases were also seen in other counties such as Sacramento, (12.1 to 12.6); San Mateo (8.8 to 9.2) Santa Clara (11.0 to 11.3) Yolo (11.7 to 11.9) and Yuba (18.2 to 18.8).
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
