CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Most Patriotic Cities 07-02-10
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
Not one city from California was identified in the Top Ten Most Patriotic Cities in the Nation according to Men’s Health magazine.
The rankings factored into their methodology included the percentage of registered voters who turned out for state and federal elections; money spent on military veterans per capita; the percentage of residents who volunteer and participate in civic activities; and the sales of fireworks and U.S. flags to determine which cities have the most national pride.
We think they should have examined by MSA’s. San Diego has over 350,000 Navy Seaman and Marines with patriotic events going on all the time. And you haven’t seen fireworks until you have been to San Diego. It should be called California’s Firework Capital. Additionally, the Yuba City MSA has Beale AFB and one of the largest Veteran’s Day Parades in the nation and Vallejo-Fairfield MSA has Travis AFB and also a big Veteran’s Day parade. And it goes without saying that military communities and civic activities go hand in glove. Oh well you be the judge.
