The organization provides advocacy, enterprise support, the enhancement of research collaboration and a variety of programs. BayBio supports the nation’s largest cluster of life sciences companies in the nation with over 1,377 companies and over 100,000 employees with an estimated 95 publicly traded companies.
The Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio) is the trade association of the life-science industry in Greater Los Angeles. The mission of SoCalBio is to represent and promote medical device and biotechnology industry in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties which they claim represents 900 firms. Similar to BayBio, SoCalBio also provides advocacy specifically on local, state and national issues and helps firms in accessing sources of capital, along with creating partnerships to accommodate the real estate needs while promoting linkages with local universities, research institutions, and other educational institutions for workforce training and technology transfer purposes and generally supports the business growth needs of this sector in this region.
BioCom located in San Diego identifies itself as the largest regional life science association in the world, representing more than 550 member companies in Southern California. The association focuses on initiatives that positively influence the region’s life science community in the development and delivery of innovative products that improve health and quality of life. This includes initiatives in capital formation, public policy, workforce development, group purchasing and member services such as networking events. Its mission is to position the Southern California life sciences community to achieve individual and collective success on the world stage of scientific and technological innovation, and in the development of products that improve global health and quality of life.
These three organizations have and do play a key role in sustaining and growing the biotech and life sciences in California.
