CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Cities Where the Economies Are Getting Worse 04-05-11
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
It appears that even though California saw 100,000 jobs created in February there are communities where things may be getting worse. Forbes.com analyzed 85 of the largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas; (MSA’s) using a methodology to determine the state of economies based upon unemployment, mortgage delinquency rates, home price forecasts, population migration and job growth projections. Forbes used data from Moody’s.com, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and a real estate consulting firm from North Carolina to acquire information on each MSA. Unfortunately, for California, 6 out of the Top 15 are from California. However, it was also identified that while not on the top of the ranking, Phoenix, Orlando, Miami, and Las Vegas with high unemployment, and poor job growth could and should be watched as areas for getting worse.
CITIES (MSA’s) WHERE THE ECONOMIES ARE GETTING WORSE
1. Riverside/San Bernardino 2. Stockton 3. Detroit, MI 4. Los Angeles 5. Bakersfield 6. San Francisco 7. Sacramento 8. Jacksonville, FL 9. Springfield, MA 10. Memphis, TN 11. Cleveland, OH 12. Chicago, IL 13. Dayton, OH 14. New Haven, CT 15. Poughkeepsie, NY
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
