Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.

This past week the Associated Press released its list of the nation’s most
economically stressed counties. The index weighs unemployment, foreclosures
and bankruptcy rates of counties with more than 25,000 in population.

Four California counties make up the top five.  Seven California counties
comprise the top ten and 12 make up the top 20.   Six of the top twenty counties
come from the state’s Central Valley.  A county is considered stressed when its
score exceeds 11.  The following illustrates the rankings and corresponding scores.

2. Merced County — 28.29
3. Lyon County, Nev. — 27.96
4. San Benito County — 27.26
5. Sutter County — 26.41
6. Yuba County — 25.8
7. Stanislaus County — 25.46
8. Iosco County, Mich. — 24.89
9. San Joaquin County — 24.78
10. Nye County, Nev. — 24.19
11. Lapeer County, Mich. — 24.03
12. Cheboygan County, Mich. — 23.89
13. Luna County, N.M. — 23.82
14. Lake County — 23.78
15. Kern County — 23.62
16. Tulare County — 23.17
17. Madera County — 23.04
18. Fresno County — 22.72
19. Clark County, Nev. — 22.65
20. Boone County, Ill. — 22.59
