The Great Recession has had an ugly effect on the housing market specifically a flood of residential foreclosures leaving in its wake vacant housing.
Every quarter, the US Census publishes data on homeowner and rental vacancies in the 75 largest US cities that reveal which communities have the highest number of empty homes.
The cities listed here are ranked by CNBC.com according to equal-weighted ranking in both rental and homeowner vacancies.
